JULY'S BEST YOU CHALLENGE: POWER POSING

It’s that time again Queens. So far now, we’ve done two Best You Challenges. We’ve set a morning routine for ourselves and we’ve committed to drinking water. Take a look at how last month’s challenge went down and what the challenge is for this month below!

Recap of June’s H2Woah Challenge
This was actually an important milestone for me. There was a point in time in my life where I didn’t drink any water at all, for weeks and months at a time. Mt. Dew is my drink of choice. I don’t drink alcohol, I drink Mt. Dew. I don’t drink coffee, I drink Mt. Dew. It’s like the only thing I have in common with Honey Boo Boo. We do the dew. It wasn’t until I graduated college and entered the real world that I realized how devastatingly unhealthy only drinking soda and juice is for our bodies. I wanted to change it, but I was also one of those people who didn’t like the taste of water. It just has no flavor.
Now, if you are or know someone who is like this. Here’s the key. You just have to find your water…the water that changes your life every time you drink it. For me, that’s Fiji water. Fiji water is the beez neez, it’s not crisp or hard like other waters can be, but smooth and refreshing. I feel like I get my best life every time I drink it.
So, with all of that said, June’s Best You Challenge was actually a lot easier for me to complete in some ways and a lot harder in others. Since I am a rideshare driver, it’s always easy to have a water bottle or two next to me. I’m sedentary for so long, it’s important that I stay hydrated. Every time I stop for gas, I usually stock up on Gas for myself. The only difference is, I started purchasing water. instead of purchasing Mt. Dew, I purchase a Mt. Dew with a couple of bottles of Fiji. I drink the Fiji water first, then reward myself with the Mt. Dew.
Mind you, I’m working hard on my Summer Goals, and so I’m down to only one Mt. Dew every other day. It’s hard, but I’m managing.
The issue came in with having to use the restroom every five minutes. Again, I am a rideshare driver and so this hard to do at any time, let alone every half hour to an hour. During the day, there are multiple places available to stop at and use the restroom: Starbucks now, McDonalds, grocery stores, etc. However after 11pm, there are only a few gas stations and Denny's restaurants available to use the restroom. The struggle is finding a gas station that doesn’t shut down it’s bathrooms after a certain time or finding a nearby Denny's. This is a difficult feat especially every hour or so. It sometimes takes an hour for me to find a restroom.
Since, I drive all night on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays I had to cut myself off for drinking anything from 9pm until 3pm.
I will be continuing this challenge. My skin has cleared up so much since it began and I feel like I have a lot more energy. I only feel good when I drink water, so why not continue that feeling?

July’s Best You Challenge
This month’s challenge is Power Posing. The challenge will start Wednesday July 11th and run through Tuesday July 31st. For this challenge, we will spend five extra minutes in our bathroom mirrors actually looking at ourselves and hyping ourselves up for the day.
We now know the benefits of affirmations and mantras, so let’s put them to use.
Stand facing your mirror with your hands on your hips, feet shoulder width apart, and head held high. Don’t forget to puff your chest out. Basically do your best Superwoman/man pose.
Set an alarm on your phone for 1 minute and power pose in the mirror without saying anything.
Next, set your alarms for another minute. I want you to spend this minute telling yourself how beautiful you are. Tell yourself how fierce, feisty, and fabulous you are. Keep it positive. Admire yourself and shower yourself in compliments.
After you’ve spent the last two minutes falling in love with yourself all over again for the day, take another two minutes to recite your affirmations and mantras.
Finally, end the challenge with a minute of dancing to your favorite hype jam in the mirror. My hype jam used to be Beyonce’s Formation, but now it’s Beyonce and Jay Z’s Nice off of the new “Everything is Love” album. Find your favorite song that just puts you in the mood to Fuck some shit up and fuck it up in the mirror…for a minute.
That’s it. Five minutes of loving on yourself, reminding yourself of your goals, and hyping yourself up for the day, everyday, for 21 days.

21 Day Theory Debunked
I was doing some research on how to create good habits a few weeks ago for the blog post on building your perseverance when I found a few articles that actually talked about how Dr. Maxwell Maltz’s theory that it takes 21 days to form a good habit is actually false. There have actually been recent studies to show that it takes more than just time to build a good habit. Phillippa Lally, a psychology researcher at the University College London found that it actually takes more than two months, 66 days actually, to form a good habit. She also found that missing a day or messing up occasionally will not hurt your process of creating a good habit. Others, have created theories that show, it doesn’t matter how long it takes, you just need to know the process of forming a habit.
For the purpose of our monthly challenges, we will continue to keep our challenges 21 days long. The goal for the Phorbe Best You Challenge is to help you implement good habits in your life that can help you reach your goals and dreams. Phorbe is hear to support you for the first twenty one days. But just because the challenge is over, doesn’t mean you should stop the habit. I still wake up early for my #Power90 and I’m still drinking xyz ounces of water today in order to keep my healthy glow!
