I wish i was beyonce

Let’s be real. Yes, we’re Queens. But a Queen always has work to do. Do you think Queen Elizabeth just sits around eating crumpets and drinking tea all day? I think not. She has a whole country to rule and a whole royal family to watch over. Do you think after that AHHHMAAAAZZZING Coachella (let’s be honest…no one knows what that word is anymore…it’s Beychella now) performance Beyonce is just sitting somewhere with her feet up, a twin on each arm saying “I’ve done my best. It’s time to retire?” Hell no! She’s probably rehearsing right now, replacing every dancer who was just a smidge off beat and every musician who was just a tad too sharp. A Queen’s work is never done.

We should be constantly working to improve ourselves, our lives, and the environment around us. The person we are today should, in the most part*, be an improvement on who we were yesterday. This is how we become stronger, smarter, and more creative beings. There would be no Beychella if Beyonce decided that Single Ladies: Put a Ring On It was the best she had to offer.

A Phorbe Queen is a person who is dedicated to reaching the best version of themselves. This means never settling in life but going after what we want and what we want to be. Beyonce is a Queen because she is constantly reinventing herself and improving upon her work. Did you know that Beyonce has a catalog of every single interview she’s ever given and every single performance she’s ever done? Like a football coach, she reviews those tapes looking for mistakes or areas for improvement so that every interview and every performance is always better than the last. This is why Beyonce is the best. This is why during a 90 second outfit change Beyonce can walk back on stage with not only a new outfit, but a new manicure, makeup, and fresh do too.

You don’t have to be as meticulous as Beyonce taping every job interview or every board meeting you host. But it is important to reflect on your life as it is and ask yourself three questions?

1. Am I truly happy with the way I am living my life right now? If you were sitting in a movie theatre watching the story of your life in the present up on the big screen would you be laughing and swaying back in forth with your character in glee? Or would you be upset yelling at the screen to do this or that? Are you happy?

2. What areas of my life am I not happy with? Chances are there is at least one thing in your life that is not at 100%. What is that? Why is it bringing your mood down? Is it effecting other areas of your life?

3. Are those areas of my life areas I can AND should change? Only you are in charge of your thoughts, feelings, and actions. You have the power to change anything that concerns you, yourself, and your person. However, just because you can alter something, doesn’t mean you should. You can get a new nose if you don’t like the way your original nose looks. But 9 times out of 10 the way your nose looks is not the problem, your lack of self-esteem and self love is where you should focus your time and energy. That’s the root of the problem.

What is the root of that part of your life that’s not completely fulfilling you? Are you not happy at work because you feel underappreciated? Is your significant other boring you because they’re just not trying anymore? Are you not proud of how you feel after indulging in the use of substances to feed your stress, grief, or other emotions? I bet you there is something you can do to improve that component of your life that’s weighing you down. So do it.

If you don’t know how, google it. The internet is an amazing place where you can learn how to do just about anything. If you’re afraid of doing it seek support from your guidance team whether that be God, your mother, a mentor, or a best friend. Chances are there is someone in your life who would be willing to stand by you and hold your hand as you work to improve yourself. If not there are support groups for just about any addiction, life role, or major move in life. I’d even be willing to support you and helping you reach that better version of yourself.

I am always so inspired after watching Beyonce perform. She never ceases to amaze me. I have been following her career ever since the Destiny’s Child Survivor album and each new venture she takes she does it with such vigor giving me hope and a renewed sense of passion in life. I always find myself saying “I wish I was Beyonce”. Well I’m here to tell myself and you that you can be and will be the Beyonce of your life. If you take the time to reflect on your life at least four times a year and make adjustments where necessary, I promise you, your life will be more meaningful. You will feel lighter and happy won’t feel like a concept but a fact of life for you.

I’ll leave you with these words from the Queen Mother Tina Knowles:

It’s a beautiful day to conquer the world. So go fourth and slay!

*I say in the most part because rest is a big part of self-care. It’s important to take moment, a day, or sometimes even a week long vacation to rest and recuperate. However even in those moments of taking care of yourself, you are decluttering your mind and relaxing your muscles. Which, in terms, leaves room for new opportunities, fresh ideas, and a better you. I don’t know about you, but I always come up with the best ideas right when I wake up from a good nap. Those ideas help me to build on whatever I’m working on in the moment and make it better than what it was before. Thus, we are still improving ourselves even when we are resting. But I digress.
